About Us

I am Katie a self confessed foodie and tea addict from West Yorkhire.

Me and my mum own and run The Village Cafe in Scholes. Cake and Bacon came about because that is what I secretly wanted to call the cafe when we first took over (about a year ago)

When I was little I always remember that the kitchen was never out of bounds, whether I was at home or at either of my grandparents houses a second pair of hands was always welcome to help out! and on boring rainy days at home a cake or some buns was always considered  a great way to pass the time!

I was given a children's cook book for my birthday when I was about 7 or 8. It was full of really easy and fun baking recipes as well as some more complicated main dishes. The most complicated of all being the recipe for Sunday lunch hidden right at the back.

I quickly learnt the cupcake recipe off by heart and spent most Saturdays adapting it to make more exciting cakes and biscuits that could then be decorated and eaten for tea! By the age of 10 I was ready to take on the Sunday roast! The huge amount of pride and achievement I felt at achieving something I found so daunting, coupled with the lovely comments I received from my family as we all sat down to eat together was I think what kick started my love affair with food.

Cooking has always been something that I have done for fun or to relax at the end of a day at work. I never imagined that one day I would be able to do it as part of my job. They say that when you make something you love into your career it soon becomes less fun but I can honestly say that everyday that we have had the cafe I have fallen in love with food a little bit more.

There is nothing I love more than to cook for people, whether I am trying something new or an old favourite recipe. Cooking for people is exciting, It feels like you are creating and sharing something special just for them. Food is a celebration! It  brings people together, it makes them feel welcome and loved. It doesn't  have to be fancy or over the top it just has to be good...and ideally served with wine and great conversation!

In this blog you will find that I mainly share recipes from home and the cafe, Restaurant reviews, where I mainly just talk about how Iv'e eaten too much food and where! and some lifestyle content which will also heavily involve food and drink!

Thank you for reading :)
