A Little Bit Of Baking

I must apologize for not being able to post last nights scheduled post! however I was rather busy and covered in quite a lot of icing! I volunteered to bake for a works charity event and since I hadn't taken baking into work for a very long time I decided that it would be a nice idea!

I made myself a plan as I knew I wouldn't have a lot of time in one evening to get everything done.

First off all, all of my baking is gluten free (a good cook needs to be able to taste their food!) which makes things a tiny bit tricky but I think I've got a pretty good recipe down now, after quite a bit of trial and error.

I also decided to make things a bit more interesting and did a few different flavors to correspond with the different decoration themes I had planned.

  • The fists was a lime and coconut cake with little coconut birds nests on top
  • The second was a chocolate-chip cake with a little garden on top
  • Finally some classic vanilla cup cakes with  little icing cherry's on the top

I was worried that the decorating was a bit elaborate and I would run out of time, or end up staying up till the early hours to get everything finished (not for the first time!)

However it just so happened that tom had asked if he could help learn how to bake which was great!

Then my sister and her boyfriend (never ones to miss out on the action) decided that they wanted to help too and roped my mum and eventually my dad in too, by the end of the evening the table was full of icing flowers and every one was sat around having a 'who can make the best icing bumble bee' competition!...because that's just how we roll! :)

I had such a lovely evening and by the end of it we had more than enough cakes for me to take into work..there were even some left overs for my little helpers! :)

Thank you  for reading!
