Well my WHOLE30 is officially over, I managed to complete 20 days before I had to stop.
I was getting along fine with the diet in my previous posts and then at the start of my third week I hit a big wall. Even though I was unable to complete this diet this time, I still wanted to write a post about my experiences of WHOLE30 and what I have learnt from it.
I began to really struggle on my diet last Tuesday evening. I had had a constant headache around my forehead and behind my eyes for five days straight and it was getting really horrible to live with. I know that some headaches are a 'normal' part of the WHOLE30 but this was a bit extreme, I would barley be able to sleep and then I would wake up with it each morning! No amount of painkillers, water, salt etc would shift it all day long.
I was still soldering on with the diet as I really didn't want to let myself down and I was still determined to complete it. In the end the diet, the headaches and the stress of starting work in a brand new business all got way to much for me to handle.
I tried to remain sensible and I didn't have an all out binge. I actually caved and ate some hummus and a gluten free wrap and had some proper milk in my tea, things which I still consider to be part of a very healthy diet.
Since ending my diet I have had a lot more energy and my headaches have finally stopped. I have simply gone back to eating as I usually would which Is a combination of a gluten free diet with home made meals and the occasional glass of red wine.
I am still really disappointed that I was unable to complete the diet but I am hoping that once everything has calmed down at work and I am back into a routine I will be able to give the WHOLE9 diet a go as I think that is a much more sustainable and healthy way of living.
I would love to hear your experiences of the WHOLE30 diet and and January diet dilemmas you may have had.
Thank you for reading :)
