I have wanted to write a post like this for such a long time now, but every time i went to write it i wasn't sure how to start. But this little issue keeps popping up to bug me so i decided just to go ahead.
It was international womens day yesterday. A day designed to promote women and equality and womes voices. Its also about women supporting other women! So
Why is it that in this day and age, us girls are always each others biggest critics.
Instead of supporting each other as equals we give each other hell! Constantly looking for reasons and ways to put each other down and make ourselves and other peoples lives miserable on a daily, if not hourly basis.
I am 24 and I have seen my fair share of cattiness over the years. I constantly catch myself asking the same question.....WHY!!!???
Really what is the point!? Is it all in the name of evolution, do we really think that we have to put other girls down to become better people and as a way of 'destroying the competition!?'
The few things that I have learn't about bitchiness over the years are these:
1. There is no point in putting others down, it does not make you feel better about yourself. In fact in the long run it makes you feel even more miserable, bitter and twisted. You become obsessed with things that you have no control over and it just makes you more and more miserable.
2. Putting another girl down in-front of your boyfriend will not make him love you more and notice her less, it will make him think, why does she care, I can't be bothered with this drama, stop being a silly little girl, Guys will never ever get 'girl drama' There is no guy equivalent.
3.Even the people that look like they have it all, really don't. Why do we pull down people who we assume are doing better. Everyone is fighting a personal battle that the outside world knows nothing about and the only bits we get to see are their 'edited' photo reels. Life is tough enough why don't we just give each other a break!?
4. 99.9% of the time it's the people who lack confidence in themselves that are the ones who bitch about people they feel threatened by.
Concentrating on our own self-esteem issues and learning to be completely happy with ourselves is a much better use of energy and makes everyone's lives better.
5. Instantly judging people is not a science and we are usually always wrong. We often make instant negative assumptions about people that actually could get in the way of some really nice friendships.
6. If you bitch or gossip often enough then you will gain a reputation, even your friends will stop confiding in you or trusting you.
7. The one thing more destructive than the people who bitch are the people who listen to it, believe it and go along with it because they are too scared to speak out.
We have all been on the receiving end of bitchiness at some point in our lives, if all else fails just remember That someone elses opinion of you does not have to become your reality.
sorry, rant over...
Thank you very much for reading :)
