It has been about three months or so since we took over at the cafe and I think it is pretty safe to say that the rose tinted specs have well and truly fallen off! The novelty of the new has gone for good and some major stresses are starting to reveal themselves.
Last month I wrote about the physical strains which were initially incredibly hard. They have since faded away, and left behind them some lovely little muscles. Early mornings are now just a way of life.
We recently closed the cafe for a fancy new-refurbishment. The first step in making the business our own!
When we first looked at the business I saw a fantastic blank canvas with huge potential in a lovely location, just crying out to be put on the map. We made a big plan for where we saw the business in a perfect world, with all of our visions come to life!
It is so easy to get carried away at the beginning but as the re-furb started the enormity of this task began to sink in... a ceiling with a huge crack in it and very ugly, very bad lighting soon became apparent. New heating, and a complete scrub down were also desperately needed. Its hard to blow most of your budget to get to the 'blank canvas' you thought you had in the first place. But non the less so important and it feels great to have a strong foundation that we can now build our brand from.
More exciting parts of the re-furb included a new coat of paint. Some incredible wallpaper that I really fought for and I am so glad that I did! A brand new sign (and a new name!) and of course a coffee machine!
We have a long way to go till we get the cafe exactly how we want it but phase 1 is defiantly complete.
I have learnt that a strong vision is absolutely essential but so is learning to walk before you can run. Taking your time and doing things right is far better than rushing into things and doing them wrong. Having a strong foundation is the best way to start a new venture. Keeping hold of your vision and staying positive! even when it seems so far away really is essential!
Thank you for reading :)
