Cosy Winter Nights and Proper Hot Chocolates

Sorry if this post is terribly unfashionable right now and doesn't comply with the compulsory New Years detox but hey its early days yet! and you know what, we need something to ease us into the year gently, right!?

January is typically my least favourite month of the year, Christmas is gone, the cold winter nights are still lingering and hey we may have fallen off our new diet band wagon a bit sooner than we had hoped! But not to worry this calls for a little TLC and this year I am banishing the January blues with this ultimate hot chocolate recipe!

Its what I had left over from my Christmas day breakfast but it seems a shame for it to go to waste now!

Here is the recipe. (It is inspired by a Jamie Oliver one) but I had to mix it up a bit on account of the fact that I am allergic to Horlics/Ovaltine/any kind of malt drink (gluten problems)

Recipe:

2 table spoons of cornflour
3 table spoons of icing sugar
4 table spoons hot chocolate/coco powder mix
100g 70% or higher dark chocolate (finely grated)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
tiny pinch of salt

Method:

*Find an air tight or saleable container, I think glass kilner jars are ideal!
*Put all of your ingredients into your container and give them a shake about until they are all combined!
*This mixture keeps for a few months as long as no moisture can get to it!

To make the hot-chocolate: Boil 2 pints of milk in a pan, when the milk starts to get hot add 10 heaped tablespoons of your mixture into the pan and allow to bubble away slowly, whisking the mixture occasionally until nice and think and hot!

Enjoy in your favourite mug just before bed time for instant January blues banishment! :)

Let me know if you give this recipe a try!

Thank you for reading :)
