I'm currently ill and bored and...meh! So it seemed like the perfect time to update my recently neglected Blog! :)
Recently I realised that despite thinking that I was pretty up to date on all things mod-con it turns out I am actually completely useless when it comes to technology!
Its not something I have done deliberately, I am fully ready to embrace all forms of modern technology, its just that in the past I have always been surrounded by people who are genuinely more interested in these modern advances than I will ever be and therefore I have always been happy to let them sort it all out for me.
For example: my sister has an amazing knack for picking these things up, so for years she was the only one in the house who could work the DVD player, Now asking for help when you want to watch Bridget Jones for the 100th time is not so much of a big deal. However attempting to ring for a lift after a long day at work when you have missed your second bus and you are stood in the rain without an appropriate coat! and realising that you can no longer call or text anyone is a bit of a bigger deal!
This is also not the time that you want to realise that the reason that you are in this rather crappy predicament is because you let your ex set your phone/contract etc. up for you and you didn't even bother to ask for any of your account details or even how you were paying for it every month...not my proudest 'girl power' moment!
so I realised a few things:
1. No. things probably/hopefully can't get much worse in terms of my dignity, or lack there-of
2. That I should probably sort my life out and get myself a new phone pretty quickly!
3. Whilst I'm buying my new phone I should also probably invest in a practical winter coat!
Phone shopping:
It wasn't hard to upgrade from my old phone, it was one that my sister had bought for about £10:00 (whilst she weighted for her iPhone-whatever! to be fixed) and affectionately referred to/laughed at by all as my 'drug-dealer' phone. It was a phone that I was really rather attached to actually; incredibly easy to use, it called people, it texted people, it had a brilliantly reliable and loud alarm and its battery lasted at least a week...winning! Unfortunately however, due to the issues mentioned previously it no longer did half of those things!
I decided to treat myself. I use the term 'treat' hear very loosely, as attempting to decipher the in's and out's of various phone contracts was nearly as traumatic as the standing in the rain incident! But I couldn't back out, so did my research; I went on Google, I asked peoples opinions on Facebook, I compared deals, I recruited people to help me compare deals! and I even read one (half) of a review before I got bored/confused/overwhelmed!?
After a couple of weeks of this and the occasional cold sweat I managed to get myself a rather amazing Samsung Galaxy note 10.0 and a Samsung Galaxy S3 with a pretty impressive 24 month contract. The length and nature of the contract being the cause of most of the cold sweating, mainly because I realised that for me at the moment the idea of any sort of log term commitment is a little bit terrifying!
However like all the best relationships I decided that this would be worth it and I took the risk! I am now proud to say that at the age of 23 I have got my very first contract phone!
The contract that I ended up going for was quite impressive, it includes more minutes and texts than I will ever conceivably use in one month and has unlimited internet! It is so impressive in fact that I did have to check that the unlimited internet did actually mean unlimited and would allow me to use the internet any time, anywhere and wouldn't incurring any extra charges, which it does! and which I though was way too good to be true!
So I now have access to the internet and a camera 24/7, (these are the only things that I have managed to figure out how to use so far!) and with these new gadgets comes a whole new set of first world problems that I have never experienced before.
OVERSHARING!
How much is too much when it comes to social media!?
Over the last two weeks I have probably posted (or managed to restrain myself from actually posting)
50-100 slefies, 30 pictures of mine or someone else's food, 10 pictures of pissed off looking pets and/or random pictures of 'my current location' to Facebook, twitter and/or my new Instergram account!
I have also become completely addicted to pintrest!
I'm sure that there is some sort of social media etiquette that you are supposed to observe so that you don't look like a crazy, self obsessed looser...with cats! but as yet I haven't figured this out or stop/edit myself!
Hopefully the novelty will wear off eventually! But until it does...
