I really am a fan of a proper printed out photo! Thanks to my dad who fancies himself a bit of an amateur photographer! (As was my granddad)There is something a bit special about holding a print in your hands and not just looking at it on a screen.
At the bottom of my parents bed there is a big wooden chest full to bursting with thousands of photographs dating back to when they were both little right up to when my dad invested in a digital camera....there is now a second huge piles of disks next to the computer with all those photos on too! ...kinda lucky really as there is no way you could get any more photos in the chest...digital photography does have its upside I guess!
Anyways a couple of weeks ago my granddad sadly died and feeling pretty sad and a bit nostalgic I decided to spend a day looking through these photos. I found some truly amazing ones my favorites being some proper old school pics of my mum and dad (mainly taken by my dad) when they were dating.
My mum and dad met when my mum was 16 and my dad was 19. they met through my mums brother who just so happened to be my dads best friend. Cute!
They were each others first and last loves, and that's a bit special i think! :) They needed a bit of a friend intervention to pluck up the courage to get together though, my dads friend wrote a valentines card and sent it to my mum pretending it was from my dad...a tad risky...but it worked! :)
They survived 4 years of long distance when my dad went to uni with only letters and one phone call a week, (and this is my favorite bit)...since it was before mobile phones and the internet....every Friday night at the same time my dad would walk to the phone box down the road from his uni halls and weight for my mum to ring it from the phone box on her street! They never missed a call! :) ..and my dad still has all of there letters somewhere too!
That was 27 years ago! :)
Now I'm a pretty massive, incredibly hopeless romantic so a story like that totally rocks my world and just in time for valentines day too! :)
