Healthy Flapjacks Recipe!

Flapjacks is something that my mum was always making for us when me and my sister were little. I think its because she thought that they were slightly healthier for us than chocolate and sweets!...she did have a bit of a point i guess!

anyways her point has kind of stuck and they are defiantly one of my favorite snacks..a lovely alternative to processed cereal bars!

So last weekend in Wales I thought it would be a nice idea to make some of them myself.
They weren't a complete success as I had forgotten some elements of the recipe and i had not internet access so I ended up making it up as i went along a little bit. They still tasted pretty yummy, even if I say so myself.

But I thought  I'd share a couple of proper recipes on here instead.

Recipe 1: Mum's 'Healthy' flapjacks

  • 250g gluten free porridge oats
  • 125g margarine
  • 125g Brown sugar
  • 2-3 table spoons of golden syrup (more +more gooey!)
  • a few teaspoons of all spice! ..i like going pretty over bored on this ingredient!
heat your butter and syrup in a pan until melted, before adding to your dry ingredients. mix well and pour into a greased baking tray, press into place and bake in the oven at 180 for about 20 minutes.
Cut into squares as soon as they come out of the oven and then leave to cool before taking them out!

Recipe 2: Even Healthier Flapjacks!

I found this recipe online a while ago for even more super healthy flapjacks which sounds great!

  • 150g ready-to-eat stoned dates
  • 100g low fat spread
  • 3 generous tablespoons of agave syrup
  • 50g ready to eat stones, dried apricots
  • 3 table spoons chopped, toasted hazelnuts
  • 50g raisins
  • 150g gluten free porridge oats.
pre-heat your oven to 190 degrees. then put your dates into a food processor until they are finly shopped.
Then put your margarine, dates and agave syrup in a pan and heat gently until they have melted.
Add all of the remaining ingredients and stir well until well mixed.
Pour the mixture into a greased baking tin and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven, cut nto squares and allow to cool!
