We had to call off my dads birthday meal out a couple of weeks ago due to my mum being ill,(You can read about how we celebrated at the time here)
So to make things up to him me and my mum decided we had to go somewhere a little bit special, We chose to go to the 3 acres.
The 3 Acres is situated just outside of Huddersfield at the foot of Emley moor mast. I have been lucky enough to have been a couple of times recently with Tom and his family but my parents have never been and my mum decided that she needed to go!
We booked a table for 6 at 7:15 and used it as an excuse to get a little bit dressed up. The dress code isn't so fancy, but it's fancy enough that you wouldn't feel out of place in a pretty dress if you felt like it.
We were sat in the dining room just behind the bar which was lovely and there was lots of atmosphere, but I would say that if you can you should definitely try and get a table in the bar, as that is where the real atmosphere is and it really is very lovely.
The food is all local produce and made to order, which is great for us gluten free girls as pretty much anything on the menu can be made gluten free :) They also do some seriously good home made gluten free bread to start, which was hands down some of the best gluten free bread I have had.
For starters I went for the Queenies, little scalops served in their shells with melted Gruyère and mustard and a little rocket salad, I'm a huge fan of seafood and this did not disappoint. My dad went for the black pudding scotch egg, tom had the Japanese chicken and my mum sister and her boyfriend opted for the garlic mushrooms. I was unable to taste test but they all looked gorgeous and everyone was more than happy with their orders.
At this point the lovely Argentinian red wine that we ordered...and possibly the Gin and tonic I had had to start must have gone to my head as I did a very bad job of getting any photos of peoples mains or indeed their desserts. Ooops!
I had the spicy beef stroganoff with rice, again they were able to thicken this source with gluten free flour which was perfect and very tasty :) Tom went for the lamb done 3/4 ways, which looked so good that if I had been sure it was gluten free I would have jumped over the table and had a try...he assured me that it was very very good. My dad had an amazing looking seafood stew and jack had the biggest plate of proper fish and chips I have seen. My mum and sister went for the cod special which I must admit gave me massive food envy also. There were 6 very clean plates by the end of this course and everyone said it was amazing!
For dessert tom went for the brown bread ice-cream...I can vouch for the toffee sauce which was incredible and everyone insisted on having a try of the ice-cream which they all agreed was lovely. My dad had the pavlova which he managed to finish before I could have a try, but my sister gave up half way through her white chocolate and passion fruit panacotta which meant I got to have a little bit to myself and it was so so good!
We had a really lovely evening with lots of wine, great company, amazing food and a very lovely atmosphere. If you've got a special occasion coming up or fancy a bit of a treat then I would definitely recommend you book yourself a table here! I don't think you''l regret it :)
