A few weeks ago I was asked to test out a juicer for work. Me and Tom took one home to try out, and we were pretty impressed!
So impressed in fact that we decided that we could really do with one in our lives on a slightly more permanent basis, and bought one of our own.We are planning on moving into our own place between November - January, so I guess this makes the juicer our first official 'joint' item.
The Juicer we bought is an electriq product, retailing at £64.97, you can find it Here
It's a slow juicer which means that it keeps more of the nutrients in your juice, it also makes sure that it gets all of the juice out of the fruit so that not a drop is wasted and you have a super smooth, bits free juice!
All of the pulp from this juicer comes out into a separate container, it does look like a lot of waste at first, but handily you can use all of this as ingredients in other dishes! I am currently planning some sort of chocolate orange cake concoction with all the orange pulp! Alternatively I have heard that is goes great with grilled chicken!
This new purchase perfectly ties in with the holiday health kick that I am currently on. I am still debating weather I will do a proper juice diet or not (maybe just for a few days just before we go away.) But for now Tom will be having his for breakfast and possibly another one in the evening. Because I find it incredibly difficult to eat anything until at least 10 o'clock most days, I will be taking mine to work for mid-morning.
The first time we did it we threw in a rather random selection of fruit which was really nice, this time however we decided to follow a recipe that turned out so amazingly that I knew we had definitely made the right decision in buying one!
The recipe we tried out:
- 4 big oranges
- 6 green apples
- 3 lemons
- 2 Mango
a generous sprinkle of cyan pepper (the best bit!)
.. and I would seriously recommend it! :)
There is some debate to how good juicing is for you. People are concerned about the amount of sugar in fruit etc etc. The way I see it is that fruit contains natural sugars, which are considerably better for you than processed sugars. They also contain a lot of vitamins and minerals which are fantastic for your skin, hair, nails general well being and happiness. Not to mention far far lower in calories than your usual breakfast, mid-morning snack or lunch, hence a lot of people use them for weight loss.
All you are putting in your juice is fresh fruit, meaning that there are no preservatives or other nastiest in there. I find it funny that no one worries about the amount of sugar and other horrible things in a slice of bread (trust me it's scary) but are quick to point out all of this when it comes to juicing.
Long story short anything fresh and home made is good for you and juicing is good for you, but like with everything in life it is best as part of a well balanced and healthy diet, and in moderation.
I will keep you updated of our juicing progress! :) In the mean time if anyone has any more incredible juice recipes then I would love love love to hear them.
Thank you for reading :)
