My Summer Essentials

There are a few things that I think are absolutely essential for summer, and with this lovely warm weather not looking like its going anywhere any time soon(fingers crossed), and my love for lists, I decided to combine the two in this post:

My Summer Essentials:

A really great Fake tan. Absolutely top of the list for pale girlies like myself. I took this stuff to Egypt in the height of summer and...used it! Because I just do not tan! Anything lower than factor 50 and I burn to a crisp, I have a pretty sinister scar on my forehead from a particularly bad sun burning incident that reappears every time I go in the sun. So for this reason I think it is so much better to fake it! My favorite fake tan of all time (and I have tried a lot) Is Xen-Tan. It applies so easily, with a great guide colour, dries in seconds and smells of vanilla not horrible fake tan smell! I used the medium/dark and it develops into a really lovely caramel co-lour with not a hint of orange in sight :)

Comfortable sandals. There is nothing worse than having hot and sweaty feet stuffed inside shoes in the height of summer, A good pair of sandals is essential. However for me they have to be super comfy too as I hate wearing uncomfortable shoes or shoes that I can't walk in, especially in Summer. I also like them to have a bit of a heel as I am quite short (5ft5) I found the perfect pair last year in Topshop and I wear them nearly every day in summer. They are great fro slightly cooler nights when I want to make jeans and a top/jumper look a bit more summary. They are the comfiest shoes I own apart from my trainers. I can walk for miles in them, which is pretty handy as I think I will be doing a lot of sightseeing on holiday this year!

H
A Decent bronzer. Because I use fake tan a lot more in summer I have to have a good bronzer too, I have been using befits Hoola bronzer for about 6 months now. The product has lasted my ages and that is impressive considering I use it pretty much every day. It is a really dark colour, which is sometime brilliant especially after tanning or when I am contouring. However I sometimes wonder if I should invest in a slightly lighter one too for when I am a bit paler. I did have a slight issue with it going patch and cakey on my skin at first but I started using match fix+ before and after applying it and that has sorted the problem out brilliantly! :)..My only worry is that I may need to invest in a new one before my holidays in September!

A great bikini: This is a nightmare in itself and I could probably write an entire blog post about this problem.(in fact maybe I will at some point) After years of tying out different styles including large 1950's style pants, plunging swimming costumes, bra style bikini tops and every other style you can possible think of I have reached the conclusion that the simple triangle style bikini with tie side briefs is the most appropriate for my figure. I will be investing in the rather gorgeous Triangl lilly leopard print one for my holidays! :)

Maxi Dresses: I love wearing maxi-dresses in summer, It is the only time of year where you can get away with a floor length gown and not look like you are going to your high-school prom. It took me a rather long time to track down, but I finally I found my dream maxi-dress, on Nasty Gal.com.! They are ideal for throwing on over a bikini or dressing up a little bit for the perfect holiday evening look. Maxi-dresses are ideal as you can just throw them on and go, prefect in the summer when it's too hot to think about what your wearing and you are pretty much guaranteed to be cool enough and look summary.

Sunglasses: My eyes are really sensitive to sunlight so I have a pair of sunglasses in my handbag pretty much all year round. I love them! and I love summer because I get to wear them even more. I would absolutely love to build up a nice little collection of them. My favorite style have to be Wayfarers as they pretty much go with everything and anything and I reckon they suit my face shape okay. I like black or tortoiseshell frames and Black or mirrored lenses. This year I fancied a bit of a change and got myself a pair of feline, 1950's style ones to try out too.

Suntan Cream: Because I burn so ridiculously easily I do not even attempt to tan naturally anymore. I instead take a high-factor sun tan lotion with me everywhere I go. (I also make sure that my foundation has a high SPF in it all year round) This year I want to stock up on Malibu as I absolutely love the coconut smell :)

What are your summer essentials?

Thank you for reading :)
