I bought myself a skipping rope just under a year ago..(I got a really nice cheap one from ebay)
Since the race to get holiday fit is back on I've been using this a lot recently!

Since the race to get holiday fit is back on I've been using this a lot recently!
I was told that it was one of thee best forms of cardio that you can do and it's a great way of getting fit, for lots of different reasons:
- It's super high intensity so you can do it in short burst, i usually do it for about 10 minutes at a time, although I am slowly working up to doing bigger blocks. High-intensity work outs have been proven to increase muscle mass and burn fat much more effectively than endurance or moderate excersize. Studies show that a high-intensity work out for a shorter period of time is much more effective at burning fat and building muscle. A work out should last between 15-20 minutes and if you can carry on for longer than that then you are probably not pushing yourself hard enough!
- It's great because you can fit in a quick work out in the evening without having to schedule out loads of time to do something longer, I think this is great for motivation too, if I know its only going to take me 15 minutes I am definitely more inclined to do it.
- You need hardly any equipment, just your rope, some trainers and some water...oh and a bit of outside space. That's it! No big expensive gym equipment taking up lots of room and getting in the way!
- It's fun! I still remember skipping when I was little and although this is not the same thing it is still fun! I think enjoying your work out is the key to sticking at it, it becomes more than something you do to get fit or thin, that becomes the nice little by products of doing something that you enjoy, Plus you can't beat the buzz of endorphis!
let me know if you give skipping a go!?
Thank you for reading :)
